Over the years, Alice Boiu, a highly gifted young violonist, has not changed substantially her style, playing from preclassical to modern music. Of course, the essence of that what constitutes her personality remained in place, on her recent album her special print can be heard. But if you listen to the songs in a row, you can easily see that Alice has matured and has changed the way she expresses herself through the violin. Its true that this disc has no modern creative spirit, but it is compact, fluent and accessible, so that once heard, you´ve got to put it on repeat.
You might be surprised to learn that Alice continues her upward road. After a career in symphonic music, as a member of G.Dima Brasov Philharmonic, she has earned an honorable place among professionals musicians; she hasn’t approach the innovation and creative side of music , but only reinforced what she has learned from the begining. Alice in Musik Land is quite an argument in this matter, a very solid one, like any foundation is.
The mixture between pop, rock and jazz styles is a purely American creation and with not too many fans overseas till recently. However, it began to find adherents in Europe and for this can only be two explanations: either the people from the old continent have suddenly changed not only their taste in music, but the way they think (which is unlikely), or this genre has evolved, gaining musical meanings closer to our archetypes. Maybe the last reason is the real one and this recent album, ALICE IN MUSIC LAND, confirms my opinion. The songs played by her are the first steps to her metamorphosis.
It's hard to say something new about commercial music for violin, something that has not already been said. But this CD is Alice´s trip in an imaginary country, where all cultures come together through music! From the cold Siberia to the beautiful Ireland, distant echoes from familiar themes of each country can be heard. Alice comes as a rolling snowball in 2011, full of surprises, reminding those who forgot and teach those who do not know till now, the sound of an irish, german, italian or israelian song. We have to notice the contribution of Valentin Munteanu, musical arranger and the sound engineer Mircea Damian. We expect nothing but the release of Alice´s album scheduled in 2012.
Boiu Alice was born in Brasov, a touristic town, in the middle of Carpathian Mountains, in a family of famous Hungarian musicians. All the guidance of different personalities of Romanian art, created artistic personality of the future musician.
Wanting surprise her parents, she presented in secret to a contest for the post of artist musician Gh.Dima Brasov Philharmonic. She was admitted and integrated very well in the orchestra. In her beauty gathered so many generations of artists and is to be admired also as a woman and as an artist. At the same time continues her studies at the Music Academy and performs with the Philharmonic, where she still is employed.
